  • Other members of the group feel Whitney’s return is opportunistic

Whitney Leavitt is honest about her intentions.

Despite being voted back into MomTok at the end of season 2 of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, Whitney returns this season with her relationships in the group feeling strained once again. She claims MomTok hasn’t involved her in much since season 2, though she also noted she moved to a different Utah town that puts her a bit farther away from the action.

In a sit-down with friends outside of the cast, Whitney revealed she had no intentions of returning for season 3, admitting, “I just found out if I came back to film, I can audition for Dancing with the Stars.”

In a confessional, she explains, “After last season, I did decide to step away from the show, but I never quit MomTok. I was always in MomTok, still a part of that group. I just really needed a break, but then I heard from my team Dancing with the Stars was going to cast someone from The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, and that’s a motivator. I’ll come back for that.”

When one of Whitney’s friends asks her how she’s going to handle her relationships with the different women and whether she’s still interested in their friendship, she replies, “Yeah, but I’m clearly not welcome in this group, and I’m not going to be like ‘Will you please be my friend?’ “

In a confessional, she adds, “Of course, I miss the sisterhood. I worked my a– off trying to get it back, but that’s the thing about relationships, is it takes two to have one.”

The ladies of MomTok had some strong feelings about Whitney’s return, which many feel is opportunistic.

“Whitney left MomTok because she wasn’t getting certain opportunities or more money, and I do feel like all of us girls have been hurt by Whitney because we’ve invested our time and energy into the friendship. And then she leaves when she doesn’t get what she wants,” Jessi says.

Producers confronted Whitney about rumors that she had certain demands for returning before DWTS was on the table, from asking for Oscar tickets, which she denied, to asking for a role on one of Hulu’s scripted series, which she confirmed.

After a tense conversation with Jen Affleck about where their friendship stands after last season, Whitney leaves Miranda’s birthday party feeling more rejected by the women than ever.

“I definitely think Whitney is only here for herself and her own opportunities, and that our friendships within the group were actually never real or genuine to her,” Jen, who would also go on to compete on DWTS with Whitney, admits.

Whitney, for her part, believes the group met her with “hostility.”

“This is exactly why I didn’t want to come back, but there’s this amazing opportunity, Dancing With the Stars, and it’s something that I want. So I’m going to go after it, and there’s no shame,” she resolves in a confessional.

When MomTok meets up to discuss Whitney’s brief appearance at the event, Jen admits she feels it’s not fair that Whitney is back.

“It’s frustrating for me because since the day I met her, I told her I wanted to go on Dancing With the Stars, like that is literally one of my dreams. The minute she sees there’s an opportunity, she’s like, ‘Oh wait, I’ve always wanted it.’ “

Taylor Frankie Paul does bring the group together in hopes of resolving some of these feelings, during which Whitney tells the group that she feels she’s only included when it’s necessary.

“After we had that vote, I still feel like we didn’t clear the air. The vote didn’t feel sincere. So then I took that, and I said, ‘Okay, so then this is strictly business,’ ” Whitney says. Later, she tearfully compares a friend breakup to a relationship breakup, but doesn’t seem to get sympathy from the others.

While the women refute her claims, Whitney doubled down in a confessional, noting, “MomTok is a business. MomTok is not this sisterhood, friendship, rara, and I don’t care what they f—— say. At the end of the day, you don’t care about my feelings. You don’t care about me, you care about yourself. Okay, noted. Let me start doing that then.”

The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives season 3 is now streaming on Hulu.
